How does SignalFx pricing work?
We charge based on the volume of data you are using to monitor your cloud applications. This volume of data is calculated by tracking the number of data points that you send to SignalFx per minute – Datapoints Per Minute (DPM). Pricing starts at $0.015 per 1000 DPM. This works out to a cost of $15 per host per month. Discounts are available for higher volumes of DPM
How do I know how much DPM I will need?
As part of our engagement with you before your purchase, we will provide a SignalFx trial. Part of that trial will be to generate an estimate of the DPM required for the scope of applications you wish to monitor.
We have a usage-based pricing model that’s based on your data ingest rate. You decide what metrics you want to send and how often. We provide predictable pricing plans but give you the flexibility to burst without penalties when and where you need more visibility.
For example, if you have 100,000 metrics across your environment reporting data once a minute, you would buy capacity to send SignalFx 100,000 DPM. You can reallocate those metrics across applications and hosts/VMs/containers, or dial reporting frequency up or down as you see fit. We realize not all hosts are created equal and in cloud environments you might be scaling up or down quite frequently.
How do you charge for custom metrics?
We don’t have special, higher pricing for custom metrics, and we don’t impose limits on the number of custom metrics you can send.
Do you provide monthly pricing plans?
How do you deal with temporary usage bursts?
Included in your plan, we give you up to 2,160 minutes (36 hours) of overage time each month up to 150% of your capacity levels to accommodate temporary bursts.
If your pricing is usage-based, how do you deal with overages?
We have a very simple model that doesn’t charge you any penalties, surge prices, or any other hidden costs for overages. You only pay for what you use. We provide you with plenty of controls and warnings to manage your usage. If it looks like you are approaching your purchased capacity limit, you’ll hear from us and have plenty of time to dial back your usage. If you decide to exceed your purchased capacity, we simply charge you in arrears for your extra usage that month at our standard monthly prices.
