Simple Pricing Designed for Cloud Operations

We have a usage-based pricing model that’s based on your data ingest rate. You decide what metrics you want to send and how often. We provide a predictable pricing plan and give you the flexibility to burst without penalties when and where you need more visibility.

  • Monitoring designed for microservices and container based applications
  • Pricing based on volume of data monitored, not architectural choices
  • No “container tax”: no incremental cost for number of containers deployed
  • No charges for custom metrics
  • Data volume burst protection built-in
  • Discounts available for multi-year and volume commitment
  • Standard and enterprise support options available

*Pricing starts at $0.015 per datapoint monitored per minute each month. The $15/server/month estimate assumes that each server will generate 1,000 datapoints per minute (DPM) on average. Based on the default ingest rate of the SignalFx collectd agent, which provides comprehensive infrastructure metrics at up to 1 second resolution, with ample capacity for application and custom metrics. The listed price is based on a standard services agreement, actual prices may be lower based on quantity and frequency of metrics and applicable volume discounts.

How does SignalFx pricing work?

We charge based on the volume of data you are using to monitor your infrastructure, services, containers, applications, and functions. This volume of data is calculated by tracking the number of data points that you send to SignalFx each minute – Datapoints Per Minute (DPM). Pricing starts at $0.015 per data point monitored per minute, per month. Discounts are available for higher volumes of DPM.

How much capacity do I get for $15/server/month?

The $15/server/month estimate assumes that each server will generate 1,000 datapoints per minute (DPM) on average. Keep in mind that your DPM capacity is a global capacity — you can spread that capacity across as many servers or applications as you’d like. We have pricing plans that offer volume discounts if you are instrumenting many more metrics.

How do I know how much DPM I will need?

As part of our engagement with you before your purchase, we provide a SignalFx trial. Part of that trial is generating an estimate of the DPM required for the scope of applications you wish to monitor.

For example, if you have 1,000 hosts reporting 10 metrics once per minute, you would buy capacity to send SignalFx 10,000 DPM. If you chose to have those same hosts report those same metrics every 10 seconds (6 times per minute) you would purchase 60,000 DPM. We provide you with the flexibility to reallocate those metrics across applications and hosts/VMs/containers, or dial reporting frequency up or down as you see fit per each host. We realize not all hosts are created equal and in cloud environments you might be scaling up or down quite frequently.

How do you charge for Lambda metrics?

Traditional host based pricing does not work for Lambda metrics since they are serverless. Because we charge based on the number of metrics you send us and not the number of hosts, our DPM pricing is consistent across infrastructure, services, containers, and lambda metrics.

How do you charge for custom metrics?

The same way we charge for everything else: based on your usage. We don’t have special, higher pricing for custom metrics, and we don’t impose limits on the number of custom metrics you can send.

Do you provide monthly pricing plans?

Yes, we do! We provide monthly plans and annual plans. Annual plans provide additional discounts.

How do you deal with temporary usage bursts?

Included in your plan, we give you up to 2,160 minutes (36 hours) of overage time each month up to 150% of your capacity levels to accommodate temporary bursts.

If your pricing is usage-based, how do you deal with overages?

We have a very simple model that doesn’t charge you any penalties, surge prices, or any other hidden costs for overages. You only pay for what you use. We provide you with plenty of controls and warnings to manage your usage. If it looks like you are approaching your purchased capacity limit, you’ll hear from us and have plenty of time to dial back your usage. If you decide to exceed your purchased capacity, we simply charge you in arrears for your extra usage that month at our standard monthly prices.
